On April 24th, the Ashhwika Foundation, a committed advocate for mental health awareness and holistic wellbeing, organized an impactful workshop at Shaheed Bhagat Singh College. This workshop was specifically designed for students pursuing graduation, focusing on the critical issue of managing exam anxiety and depression. The session emphasized the integrated approach of mind and body wellness, providing comprehensive strategies to tackle these challenges.
Workshop Theme: Managing Exam Anxiety and Depression
Exam anxiety and depression are prevalent issues among students, often leading to decreased academic performance and overall wellbeing. Addressing these problems is essential for students to thrive both academically and personally. The Ashhwika Foundation, in collaboration with WellM psychologist Leher Malhotra and Viveka Mansata, along with fitness expert Payal Grover, aimed to provide a holistic solution through this workshop.
Expert-Led Sessions
The workshop was divided into two main segments, each lasting 30 minutes, to ensure a thorough exploration of both the psychological and physical aspects of managing stress and anxiety:
Mind Session with Psychologists Leher Malhotra and Viveka Mansata (30 minutes): Leher Malhotra and Viveka Mansata, renowned psychologists from WellM, led the first session focused on understanding and managing exam anxiety and depression from a mental health perspective. They discussed the psychological triggers and symptoms of anxiety and depression, providing students with practical coping mechanisms. Techniques such as mindfulness, cognitive restructuring, and relaxation exercises were introduced, helping students to manage their stress levels effectively. The interactive nature of the session encouraged students to share their experiences and concerns, creating a supportive environment for open discussion.
Body Session with Fitness Expert Payal Grover (30 minutes): The second segment, led by fitness expert Payal Grover, highlighted the importance of physical health in managing mental wellbeing. Payal Grover introduced various fitness routines and exercises specifically designed to reduce stress and improve mood. She emphasized the connection between physical activity and mental health, explaining how regular exercise can alleviate symptoms of anxiety and depression. Students were guided through simple yet effective exercises that they could incorporate into their daily routines, promoting a balanced and healthy lifestyle.
Holistic Approach to Wellbeing
The unique aspect of this workshop was its holistic approach, integrating both mental and physical health strategies to combat exam anxiety and depression. This dual focus provided students with a comprehensive toolkit to manage their stress, highlighting the interdependence of mind and body in achieving overall wellbeing.
Positive Feedback and Impact
The workshop was met with enthusiastic participation and positive feedback from the students. Many attendees expressed their gratitude for the practical insights and strategies shared during the sessions. They appreciated the holistic approach, finding the combination of mental health tips and physical fitness guidance particularly beneficial.
